CHRISTMAS DECORATION AT GOOD SHEPHERD
There are two opportunities to help out with Christmas decorations.
1) On Sunday, December 5, we will meet at church at 4:00 PM to put up the Christmas decorations and trim the tree. Afterwards, we will have a supper provided and enjoy some fellowship with one another.
2) We will be setting up our light display at the Tollgate Farm on Saturday, December 11. We need 6 to 10 volunteers to help transport our display, lights, etc… We will meet at the church at 9:30 AM to pick up the lights and decorations and then travel to the Farm (Meadowbrook Road, just north of 12 Mile Road). Set up should take 60 to 90 minutes.
ADVENT VESPERS
Come for an hour to pray, to meditate, and to rest during a usually hectic month. This is an opportunity to reflect on God’s promises of the Savior whom he would send for all mankind, fulfilled by Jesus. Our theme for this year’s Advent Vespers is: Yeshua Foreshadowed. (Yeshua is the Aramaic name by which Jesus would have been called.) The theme for each Wednesday is:
December 8 -- Foreshadowed as Priest: Joshua (Zechariah 3); Rev. Purdue
December 15 -- Foreshadowed as Prophet: Hosea (Hosea 3); Rev. Kieta
CHRISTMAS SEASON
The schedule for the services for the Christmas season is below. Please invite friends, family, or anyone you can invite to our services. Christmas Eve is a particularly popular time for people to attend a service even if they usually never do. Let’s take advantage of that!
December 24, 7:00 PM Christmas Eve Candlelight Service
December 25, 10:00 AM Christmas Day Festival Service
December 26, 10:00 AM Festival of St. Stephen, Martyr
January 2, 10:00 AM New Year’s focus
PEERING AHEAD INTO JANUARY
Bible Information Class will begin on Monday, January 10 from 7:00-8:30 PM. You can already start thinking about whom you could invite to this class. Come with them to make them more comfortable and to review the basics of Christian teaching yourself. Look for a schedule of topics to be posted soon.
Bible Matters will resume on Wednesday, January 5 at 6:30 PM. These sessions will be conducted every Wednesday in January and February. They encourage thoughtful discussion about topics which are often debated. We welcome all people, even those who have doubts about the faith or who would challenge the Bible’s teaching. This class also makes us more confident to express and defend the Christian faith to others. Look for a schedule of topics to be posted soon.
ADULT BIBLE CLASS – GREAT CHAPTERS OF THE BIBLE
Beginning on Sunday, December 12, we will begin a new series, “Great Chapters of the Bible.” While the various teachings of God are scattered throughout the Bible, the Bible sometimes documents a particular teaching in an extended portion of Scripture. They give us a great deal to ponder for our understanding, comfort, and guidance. A greater knowledge of these chapters provides a greater defense against false doctrine and a greater appreciation of God’s promises and instruction. Classes are Sundays at 8:45 AM.
A complete schedule of this series has been posted at church. Upcoming lesson include:
Dec 12 Psalm 1 -- Delight in the Word of the Lord
Dec 19 Genesis 3 -- The Fall into Sin
Jan 2 Exodus 12 -- The Passover
Jan 9 Leviticus 16 -- The Day of Atonement
NOTE The lesson on December 12 will include a practical way to conduct devotions with your family. Adults and children will meet together for this session.
