This afternoon, a number of WELS pastors and a few of their wives in the Detroit area met at Mi Pueblo restaurant in Detroit to say Farewell and God's blessings to Rev Ismael Sialer and to his wife, Mercedes. Pastor and Mrs. Sialer had left Peru to come to America for some business venture. In the process, Pastor Sialer ended up studying at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary to become a pastor. He served at Palabra de Vida Lutheran Church in Detroit for about six years. In that time, he made hundreds of contacts with people in the Hispanic community in the Mexicantown area of Detroit. Along with his associate, Pastor Ryan Kolander, Pastor Sialer saw God bless his work tremendously at Palabra de Vida.
But now, Pastor Sialer is retiring, and he and his wife are returning to Peru. Pastor Sialer has already spoken of plans to start new congregations once he gets there. Godspeed and God's blessings to you, Pastor & Mrs. Sialer (pictured lower right). We will likely not meet again until we see each other in heavenly glory (although Pastor Sialer did offer a place to stay if I ever go to Peru).
